Facebook “ad frequency” is the average number of times users see your ad. As an advertiser, you need to know how many times you can show your ad to a user before the user notices the ad and click on it.

The method Facebook uses to calculate the frequency is impressions divided by reach.  Impressions are the number of times your post is shown to users and reach is the number of Unique users who see your ads.  

Why Is It Important?

In the world of advertising, frequency is the number of times a user saw your ad.  And do you really think people will take action on your ad at once? 

You need to show your ad more than once a week to get noticed and clicked by one. People will be more interested if getting your ad repeatedly while searching for particular services.

And primarily we work for performance-driven advertising and while we monitor ad frequency, we typically get better performance.  However, if you’re running campaigns for Branding on Facebook this is a commonly used metric to track performance.

How To Set The Frequency?

As we mentioned above Frequency is based on impressions and reach totally, and If you want to control your ad frequency you must run a reach campaign objective. In a Reach objective, you can set a frequency cap for your ads.

Now you will be wondering about what is a frequency cap? Let me elaborate it, Facebook launched a new function for advertisers “frequency cap” which allows you to adjust the number of times a person will be shown your ad within a set period of time. The frequency cap will manage how many users you will be able to reach and how frequently those users will see your ad.

Steps to cap frequency:

Step 1  Go to Ads Manager.

Step 2Create New Campaign in The account where you wanted to use frequency option

Step 3Select Campaign Objective as Reach.

 

Step 4Set the Campaign Details and Save it.

At the ad set level, you can make the following changes:

  • Ad set name
  • Facebook Page
  • Budget
  • Campaign scheduling
  • Audience targeting
  • Placements
  • Optimisation and delivery

At the ad set level, you can make the following changes:

  • Ad set name
  • Facebook Page
  • Budget
  • Campaign scheduling

Step 6

In optimization and delivery options click on “show more option”. You will get the following options-

 

  • Frequency cap
  • When you are charged.
  • Delivery type.

Step 7 In the Frequency cap, You can now set the frequency of your Facebook ad and save.

Step 8  Now create your ad.

Once you finish with all the changes, you can preview your ad and publish changes.If you set a cap of 4 Impressions per seven days, this will continue to serve impressions to the same person until they view your ad for at least 4 times a week and will stop serving impressions after That.Keeping 4 Impressions per seven days will probably be the best practice for your Facebook ads.

Conclusion

Ad frequency is an important factor while launching an ad campaign on Facebook. But, remember, when an ad set is active (i.e. when your ads are running), it’s not possible to edit ad frequency. If you would like to change it then you need to stop your campaign, cancel it by deleting it and create a new one.
